Food intake:
7 x lemonade
Laxative tea
General feeling:
This morning got off to a dreadful, dreadful start. My first salt water flush.
To date I've been rather coy about the down below 'movements' commonly associated with the Master Cleanse but so far I can honestly say there's been limited activity (since Monday anyway) so I was quite looking forward to a successful SWF doing its job...sadly, this wasn't to be.
At 6.10 am I rolled out of bed having slept like a log. I was half tempted to skip the flush and snooze for another couple of hours but I've managed to do everything by the 'Stanley Burroughs' book up until now, so I wasn't going to let this less popular component of the cleanse derail me.
Off I went to the downstairs loo (slightly more private than the en-suite next to Rob's side of the bed) with 2 teaspoons of organic seat salt and just under 1L of warm water mixed together in one of his super size American football mugs (either that or a vase...I had no other litre containers)! I was nervous.
It took me about two extremely unpleasant minutes to down the liquid - leaving me stood over the sink for a further five spitting out warm, salty water, the type you experience before you are sick. It reminded me of getting struck by an unexpected wave on holiday and inhaling half the ocean. Blurgh.
I was determined to keep the mixture down as I knew that in time, it would do the job and I would feel much better for it (supposedly) but it wasn't long until I was hung over the toilet throwing my guts up. I couldn't stop it.
Epic fail on all levels. I begrudgingly dragged myself back up to bed with a horrid salt water taste in my mouth and fell back asleep for an hour.
Not sure how I'll be able to conjure the strength to attempt the SWF tomorrow but I'm determined to give it another try - perhaps with less salt as the mixture was particularly strong...
On a more positive note my hunger levels seem to have completely leveled out and my cravings are a distant memory compared to a few days ago. It's actually a really nice feeling not having my day revolve around planning the food I'm going to eat for breakfast, lunch, snack, dinner - my life seems to have been refined somewhat.
It certainly is a selfish cleanse though and I do really miss getting the pots and pans out and rustling up something warm and tasty for Rob and I in the evenings. Whether or not it's suited him being able to eat and cook whatever he wants, whenever he wants I don't know... but just sitting down with a hot bowl of something discussing the days we've had at work is certainly what I miss most.
I do miss cooking but there's just no way I'd be able to prepare a meal without being tempted to try a mouthful or just check if the seasoning is spot on, if it's too spicy or whether or not I should add a bit more of this and chuck in a bit more of that... I've had to remove myself from any temptation which means over a week away from the kitchen - my sanctuary!
One of the things that has really kept me going during this whole process is Pukka's 'cleanse' tea - a blend of organic nettle, fennel and peppermint which is meant to work wonders for your skin as it also contains Aloe Vera.
It is so delicious and has really helped to keep my sweet cravings at bay. The fennel packs a real liquorice kick too which is certainly an improvement on scoffing a few large handfuls of Bassett's Allsorts (an absolute weakness of mine).
Even after I've finished the cleanse I'm going to keep buying this tea, every mouthful feels like I'm doing my body some good and I have noticed a massive improvement in the clarity of my skin. Even the one deep wrinkle on my forehead looks like it's been smoothed out considerably. I'm so glad I found this little miracle worker and urge anyone on the Master Cleanse to do the same..
Having completed a successful day at work I went home to find Rob cooking stuffed chicken and veg - one of my favourite meals! - but I whisked up a lemonade and turned my attention to painting my nails. It sounds weird but even the smallest of tasks proves a real distraction and helps to focus my mind elsewhere. I did have a secret sniff of some left overs but happily walked past and made a herbal tea - day five and I really think my hunger and want to eat has disappeared.
In total I consumed seven lemonades, a laxative tea and also popped two laxatives before bed. I was very determined to wake up the next morning and do the SWF but, as a much more appealing contingency plan, I thought I'd try and hurry things along throughout the night to avoid the dreaded wake up call.
Overall mood: 8/10 (afternoon) | 9/10 (evening)
